Check Furnace Error Codes: If your furnace has a window showing flashing lights, make a note of the pattern. These codes can be very helpful for our technicians in diagnosing the issue.
Inspect the Thermostat: Ensure it's set to heat, the temperature is above room temperature, and replace the batteries if they’re over a year old.
Verify Power Supply: Check that the circuit breaker is on, and any power switches near the furnace are in the "on" position.
Confirm Gas Supply: Ensure the gas valve to the furnace is open. If you're using propane, even if you’re on an automatic fill system, be sure to check your gas levels!
Replace the Air Filter: Even if the filter doesn’t look dirty, some filters can be restrictive with just a moderate amount of dust. When in doubt, replace it.
Clear Vent Blockages: If your furnace vents through the wall, check for any blockages like leaves, snow, or debris that could restrict airflow.
Secure Furnace Panels: Ensure the furnace panels are properly in place. Furnaces have an interlock switch that prevents them from running if the panels aren’t securely fastened.
Reset the System: Turn the thermostat down or off, power off the furnace for 1 minute, then power it back on and reset the thermostat to a temperature 5 degrees higher than the room.
